This idea scares me a little...

And you’re invited

One of my intentions this year is to do more of the things that make me feel really good… on purpose. Not accidentally. Not “if there’s time.” Intentionally.

Something that surprised me when I made that list? Singing with other people.

Now, to be clear: I have never been in a choir, and the idea of singing alone in front of anyone makes my stomach flip. Which feels important to name, because sometimes the things that make us feel the most alive are also the things that feel the scariest.

So I asked myself… Self, how do I get more group singing in my life without turning it into something intimidating or performative?

The answer was obvious: start a singing group. 😂

I floated the idea to two girlfriends: an “average-joe” singing group. Not a choir. Not a band. No solos. No performances. Just a group of people sitting together and singing for the joy of it. Not to be perfect. Not to impress. Just to show up, breathe, and make sound together.

Both of them absolutely lit up at the idea. That reaction was the only sign I needed.

So, in the spirit of one of their birthdays being today (Happy Birthday, Sally!), I’m officially putting the idea out into the world. If you’re local and the idea of a casual, low-pressure singing meet-up sounds intriguing (or even just a tiny bit scary), I’d love to hear from you. I don’t know the when or the where yet; this is just a gentle interest check. Click the button below to fill out a short form and tell me what you think.

It's a lot like yoga (of course)

What I love about this idea is how much it overlaps with our yoga practice. Singing together asks for presence. Breath awareness. Nervous system regulation. Listening. Letting go of judgment and allowing yourself to be heard without needing to be “good” at it. In so many ways, it cultivates the same qualities we practice on the mat, just through sound instead of movement. It feels like a beautiful complement to what we’re already doing.

Some other stuff we are doing:

  • Wednesday, 1/14: Garden Yoga at Spring Creek Garden Center, 5:30 – 6:30 pm
  • Thursday, 1/22: Winnie’s Book Club at Mammen Family Library, Noon – 2 pm (Something in the Water by Catherine Steadman)
  • Saturday, 1/31: Saturday Yoga at 9:30 am + Sound Bath at 10:30 am

Whether it’s through movement, breath, reading, or maybe even song, I hope this gives you a gentle nudge to say yes to what feels good in your own life.

With love,

Monica 💛

No tickets required A few months ago, I had a raffle-related moment that lodged a phrase in my brain: must be present to win. It felt playful at first, but it stayed with me. The more time that has passed, the more meaning it has gathered. So naturally, the theme wove its way into our Goodbye 2025 mini-retreat yesterday. We talked about how one of the simplest ways to make even the most ordinary moments feel meaningful is through presence. Being fully here changes the way everything else...

We welcomed winter Winter officially arrived this week, marking the shortest day and longest night of the year. From here, the light begins its quiet return, little by little. But first, we move through this deeper, cozier stretch of the season. That’s why it felt especially meaningful to gather together. To those of you who joined me for our mini-retreat yesterday… thank you. Truly. Hearing the mantras that surfaced, witnessing the honesty and intention in the room, and sharing that space...

Or... do you? I was listening to 'Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer' the other day and got stuck on that line “You know Dasher, and Dancer, and Prancer…”🎶 I realized… I don’t actually know them. But then I paused and thought about it a little more. Each reindeer has a distinct personality: energy, grace, confidence, heart, strength. When I look at it that way, I recognize every one of them. Maybe I do know them. Nerd alert: This thought excited me. So, in true Monica fashion, I took this idea...
