Hello Fall! ๐Ÿ‚

It's official!

Today marks the autumnal equinox, which means summer is officially handing things over to fall. Of course, here in Texas, the weather may need a little extra time to get that memo. ๐Ÿ˜‚

But whether it feels like fall yet or not, I love the way a changing season invites us to pay attention. When things stay the same for a while, they have a tendency to fade into the background. Then something shifts...the light changes, the days get a little shorter, the first cool morning catches us by surprise...and suddenly, we're noticing again.

And really, noticing is part of the practice.

Mindfulness doesn't just mean sitting quietly with our eyes closed. Sometimes it's simply paying attention to what is happening right now. What we're feeling. Where our energy is going. The routines we've fallen into. What we need. What we're ready for.

The seasons are changing whether we're paying attention or not. And in little ways, so are we. But when we are paying attention, we get to actually experience the change instead of looking up one day and wondering how we got here.

And on that note...let's see what's coming up this fall!

Our next Book Club pick

If you've been waiting for a secret book club, female friendship, dangerous secrets, and just a little literary rebellion kind of book...this one's for you. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Our next Winnieโ€™s Book Club pick is The Secret Book Society by Madeline Martin!

Set in Victorian London, the story follows three women living within some pretty strict expectations of who they're supposed to be. Mysterious invitations to tea lead them to a secret book club, unexpected friendships...and maybe a little courage to start rewriting the rules.

Honestly, a book club reading a book about a secret book club feels appropriately meta.

We'll meet Tuesday, October 13 from Noon to 2 pm at Mammen Family Public Library to snack, chat, and discuss. Mark your calendar!

My mind is a puppy...literally๐Ÿพ One of my favorite analogies for learning to meditate is comparing the mind to a new puppy. You sit down, close your eyes, and almost immediately the mind wanders off. A thought! An idea! A sound! Something you forgot to do! And before you know it, you're mentally halfway across the yard chewing on something you probably shouldn't be. ๐Ÿ˜‚ So we notice, gently bring our attention back, and begin again. Which, when you think about it, is a little like bringing home...

And now, back to our regularly scheduled programming... Weโ€™re back this week, and you have TWO chances to meet me on the mat this Wednesday, September 9! Join me from Noon to 1 pm at Trilogy for our regular all-levels class, or meet me among the plants at 5:30 pm at Spring Creek Garden Center for Happy Hour Yoga. And speaking of Happy Hour...Spring Creek has made some seasonal changes to their menu! You can take a peek at whatโ€™s new below. Remember, Happy Hour keeps going until 7 pm with...

There's no place like home...practice One of the things I love about yoga is the reminder that the practice doesn't begin when we step onto a mat...or end when we roll it back up. Any time we pause long enough to notice that we're here, bring intention to what we're doing, or simply become aware of our breath, we're engaging with the work of yoga. In that way, you might find yourself "practicing" all day long. That said...sometimes we just gotta get on the mat ๐Ÿค— So if you find yourself...
