Three years, all wrapped up🎁

3 years, 30 books, & a very respectable snack habit

At our last meeting, we realized that this month marks THREE YEARS of Winnie’s Book Club...and we’ve just finished our 30th book together! 👏

If you use Spotify, you may already know about “Wrapped”: the highly anticipated annual recap of your listening habits. With this special anniversary, I thought our reading habits deserved a little recap of their own. May I present to you...

Winnie’s Book Club "Wrapped"

📚 30 books
🎂 3 years
🚗 2 field trips
✍️ 1 author who joined us
🍽️ Snack tables worthy of their own review

OUR READING PERSONALITY:

Suspicious, but open to personal growth. A little murder. A little mindfulness. Some historical perspective. And occasionally, a reasonably trustworthy spouse.

OUR TOP GENRES, IN BOOK CLUB LANGUAGE:

• Something is definitely wrong here.
• Women getting through things.
• The past was complicated, too.
• A little magic might help.
• Perhaps we should work on ourselves.

THE CLUB WITHIN THE CLUB AWARD:
The Briar Club, The Calamity Club, and The Secret Book Society.
3 books whose titles suggest we might need subcommittees.

THE UNEXPECTED ANIMAL REPRESENTATION AWARD:
Remarkably Bright Creatures, The Labrador Pact, and The Murmur of Bees.
An octopus, a dog, and some bees walk into a book club...

THE PERSONAL GROWTH INTERMISSION:
The Gifts of Imperfection, Whole Brain Living, and How Yoga Works.
Occasionally, we took a break from examining fictional people’s choices to examine our own.

STATISTICS WE REGRET NOT TRACKING:
Recipes requested.
Second helpings taken.
Plot twists confidently predicted and completely wrong.
Times we had to rein everybody back in so we could stay on topic.

Here's to three page-turning years of “Did you read it or did you listen to it?” followed by the equally important question, “Who brought this amazing dish?”

Happy anniversary to our little Snack & Chat. I’m so glad we keep making time for this.

And now...book number 31!

Our next read is Whistler by Ann Patchett. If you’ve been waiting for a book that explores second chances and the people who stay with us long after our paths separate, this one is for you!

Save the date for Friday, November 6, from noon to 2 pm at Mammen Library. Winnie’s Book Club is free, and you’re welcome to join us. There is always room for another reader at the table!

Level Up...and slow down

After three weeks of Level Up, we’ve reached a group consensus: a little more time to breathe, rest, and meditate is worth making room for. We can go deeper when we slow down...and we definitely don’t want to rush Savasana.

So we’re giving ourselves ten more minutes! Please update your calendars: Wednesdays, 10:30 - 11:40 am at Trilogy Hill Country.

If you’re coming to the noon class, please keep our new finish time in mind. There are plenty of places to sit and settle in if you arrive while we’re still in session!

Hand Craft your weekend

A little movement, a little brunch, a little time to lie down and let the sound wash over you...

This Friday, October 23, join us for Brunch Yoga at Spring Creek Gardens. Then on Saturday, October 24, Cherie and I are excited to bring you our Yoga + Sound Experience from 1 to 3 pm at Trilogy Hill Country. One hour of yoga, followed by one hour of sound.

Sign up through my calendar using the button below!

Will she or won’t she?

Average Jo's Singing Club meets next Thursday, October 29, from 12 to 1 pm at St. Nicholas Church!

Berty plans to join again...we’re still waiting to see if she’ll howl along with us. Her vocal abilities remain to be seen. 👀

If you plan to attend, please RSVP so I’ll be sure to have a lyrics sheet for you. Singing Club is free, and all voices are welcome!

Wherever you end up this week, I hope you get a moment to step outside, enjoy this fresh fall air, and take a breath without hurrying to the next thing.

With love,

Monica

What a dream... I've been feeling especially grateful lately for this season of life and just how steeped in the practice of yoga I get to be. Two weeks ago, I was leading my own retreat, spending a few beautiful days practicing, playing, and connecting with an incredible group of women. This past weekend, I spent three full days immersed in my yoga therapy training, learning and exploring new ways to understand and support the people I practice with. And this coming weekend, I'll be at the...

Let it RAIN All that actual rain we got last week had me thinking about another kind of RAIN (you know, when I wasn't busy singing or brunching😂). I was first introduced to the RAIN meditation through the work of Tara Brach, who popularized the practice from mindfulness teacher Michele McDonald. And if you know me, you know I love a good acronym, so naturally this one spoke to me. RAIN provides a simple framework for meeting whatever is happening within us with a little more awareness,...

What happens on retreat... I’m happy to report that our Midweek Reset Retreat was a TOTAL SUCCESS. 🥰 We soaked, stretched, ate, laughed, journaled, painted, rested, played...and somehow it still felt like we had nowhere we needed to be. Normally after a retreat, I love sharing pictures of our time together. But this time, I barely took any!😂 After writing to you last week about paying attention enough to experience the moments we're living, I suppose I took my own advice. So this one may...
